Fill out your info and I will be in touch soon
Because of the nature of my practice, I am not always able to answer the phone directly. Calls are routed to a secure voicemail system. If you are experiencing an urgent matter, please decide whether it is appropriate to wait for my return call or instead contact your primary care provider, dial 911, or call the Anchorage Crisis Line at (907) 563-3200.
Jennifer Flanagan, LCSW
Population I serve:
I work with teens and adults who want support navigating life-stage challenges.
I treat those who struggle with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, grief and many other mental health challenges. I have additional experience helping those who suffer from Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors, such as Trichotillomania, Skin-Picking, Cheek Chewing or Nail-Biting. I am a trauma-informed practitioner. I provide gender affirming care and support all clients regardless of their gender, sex, race, color or creed.
What I offer:
I offer traditional talk-therapy while teaching about the mind/body connection. I also use Brainspotting with clients who are looking for deeper and more long-lasting results. I connect with all my clients through a relationally-focused psychodynamic perspective. This means I emphasize the therapeutic relationship itself as a central tool for healing and growth.
Approach:
I use wisdom from many therapy traditions, such as Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness-Based Therapies. I continue to expand my therapy skills and knowledge with annual continuing education.
About Me:
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is passionate about building a collaborative therapeutic relationship with clients. I welcome diverse backgrounds and perspectives and offer a respectful environment to everyone.
Background:
My journey becoming a therapist began in 2001, when I went back to school to earn my Masters Degree in Social Work. Before becoming a therapist, I earned Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with a minor in psychology from the University of Georgia in 1996. I worked until going back to school. I always had a passion for hearing others’ stories and had a desire to work in my community helping others.
In 2003, my partner and I moved to Alaska where I started as a hospital Social Worker. I went into private practice in 2015, and have enjoyed sharing workspace and collaboration with other therapists in a cozy midtown location.
We have 2 children at home and 2 at University. We enjoy backpacking, fishing, hiking, skiing and traveling.
